NRI Status India - Income tax return

Dear Sir, I am bit confused as to decide if i am an NRI or not for the purpose of filing income tax return. I was in India till 29 Sept 2012 when i first traveled abroad for studies. Then during holidays i went back to India from July 2, 2013 to sept 9, 2013. Since then i am outside india. Now for the financial Year 2012-2013 and for subsequent financial years, what should i declare myself in IT return form, NRI or Resident ? Thanks . Kindly help Thanks Bineet Mehra
