How difficult is it to bring a dog to India?

Hi, my husband & I are moving to Hyderabad in the next few months as my husband has a 3 year work contract. We are intending on bringing our curly coated retriever with us from Australia & wondering if anyone can share their experiences which would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Annie,

You'll need to get a "No Objection" certificate from the Animal Quarantine Station before the pet's arrival, which will entail submitting your dog's vaccination records, proof of microchip implantation, flight details and vet certificate. Once you arrive you'll need to book an appointment with the Quarantine Officer for your pet to be examined. 30 days later, a certificate of health must be brought to the Animal Quarantine Station. Your pet will then finally be granted a permanent certificate of health valid for the duration of its stay in India.

As you can see, this is quite a complex process. Have you considered hiring a pet removal company to assist?

Hi Megan... Thanks for providing that info.... Extremely helpful. For my understanding... our dog will have to go into 30 days quarantine once arriving in India? We are not new to expat living in Asia but this is the first time bringing a pet with us. Annie

As long as all the vaccinations are up to date, your pet shouldn't be put into quarantine. It's quite rare for this to happen, but if it does quarantine is for 1 to 3 months.
