Hello,
My name is Asil Rashid. I am a Canadian citizen who has lived abroad for the past several years. I am planning on moving back to Montreal in September 2020. I will be going with my 4.5 year old daughter, who is a British citizen. As soon as I move back, I would have to reestablish my residency. Also, I want to ask about the eligibility of my daughter going to kindergarten either under the English Montreal School Board or the French school system. She will be turning 5 on January 8, 2021.
Furthermore, what are the average fees for schools in Montreal (public schools)? And in general, how feasible will it be to move back with my non-Canadian child and establish residency there?
Thanks and regards,
Asil Rashid

Hi Asil,
All the best with the move! If you are a Canadian citizen, your daughter should be entitled to citizenship too – have you contacted the nearest Canadian embassy yet?
Regarding schools, it is easy to enter the public school system and shouldn't be a problem given your citizenship status. Typically, children in Montreal start going to school at five years old in a maternelle. Schools should be relatively low cost but may vary in the private sector. For a general overview, have a read of Education and Schools in Montreal and International Schools in Montreal – international schools are undoubtedly the expensive route to take, though.
All the best
