I am a Doctor i worked in Dammam for 1 month & came on EXIT VISA in march.
Now anyway i got my VISA stamped, after 2 times of REJECTION...
(RULE I HEARD: LESS THAN 6MONTHS STAY IN SAUDI & EXIT LEEDS TO A WAITING PERIOD OF 2 YEARS TO COME BACK TO SAUDI)
I am worried, will there be any problem DURING MY ARRIVAL IN DAMMAM-AIRPORT IMMIGRATION!!?

Hi,
Thinking of a move from Australia to Saudi, need a new adventure. I have previously lived in Muscat, Oman, so I have some understanding of life in a middle eastern country. I appreciate that it will bring new challenges if we can make the move, but I am prepared to embrace the change.
Has anyone previously lived in Muscat, Oman and moved to Saudi or vica versa? How does it compare?
I will be moving with my husband and two children, we are in the Oil and Gas industry.
Thanks

Hi Anonymous, we've interviewed many expats who have moved to Oman and Saudi Arabia, and I suggest you have a read of our interviews with expats in these countries in Expat Experiences in Saudi Arabia and Expat Experiences in Oman, which will give you a general idea to compare expat experiences of what life is like in Oman versus Saudi Arabia.

I am an Aussie and have lived in both Muscat and Saudi. Admittedly I lived in Muscat many many years ago (mid 90's), but Oman and Saudi are very different and particularly for women. Women are not allowed to drive so you will be dependent on others to get around. If you are going to Aramco, they have a significant amount of facilities and social life and would better than the old PDO club (albeit I am not sure about beaches in Khobar) There are beaches in Jeddah if you are going there - but they are private and expensive.
In public, you must wear something to cover your hair etc so you should be prepared for that, though my wife said this was never an issue for her. Kids schooling OK up to primary - but high school I would avoid and send back to Oz. But if either child has learning difficulty - there are NO support facilities of any quality.
Generally speaking we have saved a huge amount of money being in Saudi, much more so than when we were in Muscat, but if you use your time wisely, it can be a great place to do distance education and have a lot of social life. The compounds are usually very good
