Hi there

I'm seriously considering an offer to move to Qatar, and was wondering what my choices are with regards to banking in Qatar. Is it better to have a local account in Qatar, or should I keep my account at home? What are the pros and cons?

Also, are taxes still so low there?

All the best

Hi Dave

For a lot of people it simply comes down to preference and circumstances. The banking system in Qatar is more or less as easy to navigate as anywhere else, and services in English are widely available. Some people, especially if they know they're only staying for a limited time, do choose to maintain international accounts though.

As far as taxes go, tthere are none for most Western expats whose countries have a double taxation agreement with Qatar.

Have a look at our Banking, Money and Taxes in Qatar page for a bit of an overview.

All the best,

Xavier
