How restrictive are exit permits in Qatar?

I would like to know how restrictive the exit permits are in Qatar. I have been offered a job there, but would hate to lose any freedom to travel the area as a USA citizen if I chose.

Hi I have been living in Qatar for more than 5 years ,I moved from the Uk ...Exit visas appear to be restrictive ..but are usually quite easy to get from the company you work for ..they can do it online and can get it the same day ..but this dependes on the company...Frank.
