My wife and I are moving to Cordoba, Argentina in a couple months and we're going to settle down awhile while we pursue some degrees, learn the language, and maybe even start a little business if everything goes right.
The problem we're facing right now is finding affordable insurance, as we need the insurance before we can enter the country.
I know this very website is affiliated with Cigna Global, and of course I've seen there name pop up on dozens of other travel insurance websites. But I was wondering if someone could recommend some alternative providers? We aren't really looking for "travel" insurance, but more just for people who plan on living there long term (5+ years).
Are there any affordable (we are going to be working part time and going to university full time, so think affordable in those terms) providers out there anyone can recommend? Even ones that are more local to Cordoba, where we will live, would be great, as we won't do much traveling at first. We just need a simple insurance plan to allow us to get into the country - after that we can probably shop around for more affordable domestic plans.

I'm the Managing Editor here at Expat Arrivals – while I unfortunately don't have enough knowledge of local providers to recommend any, I can tell you a little bit more about Cigna which may help with your decision. They're an international insurance provider rather than a travel insurance provider, meaning they offer long-term insurance designed for expats as opposed to short-term policies for trips abroad. For additional advice, it might be worth searching for Argentina expat groups on Facebook. There are generally some large and active communities to be found there, and since it's location specific, hopefully someone will be able to give you more info.

You might look at buying a 6 month travel insurance plan that would cover emergency medical issues along with providing some other benefits. That would give you some time to do some research on other options.
Otherwise, Cigna offers a Close Care plan that provides coverage in Argentina and your home country. It is slightly more affordable than their regular plans.
Otherwise, BUPA might have some more affordable options in South America.
