Hi - I want to know is the internet restricted in China and can I use Skype to stay in contact with my family back home. How soon after I get there can I set everything up if I take my laptop can I just Skype them straight away? Also how expensive is it, would I be able to use Skype daily on a teacher's salary in Guangzhou. Thanks.

You can use Skype if you have it installed on your laptop before you arrive. Remember that Facebook is blocked, so you will also need to download some proxy server software before you arrive to access these sites within China. You'll also be able to get this software from other expat English teachers :)
