Hello we are thinking of moving to the UK for my husband to teach. I was also going to look for work so that we have two incomes but then we found out that anyone coming to the UK that is not a European citizen has to pay for their child to go to school. This is a huge concern because we aren't sure we will earn enough at first to afford our life expenses as well as school fees. Is this definitely something we will have to deal with or can Canadian kids attend school with no fees? I have had a hard time finding much information on this, which surprises me because of how it impacts a family budget. Any information will be of so much help. Thank you Marissa Hatt

Hi Marissa,

All foreigners legally residing in the UK can send their child to a state-funded school at no cost. However, you'll have to apply ahead of time because the best state-funded schools get full well-ahead of time and the standards really do vary. Read more on our Education and Schools in the UK page.
