Guys,
I am moving to Norway with my family in a few months.
I was wondering if it is common to rent apartments/houses in furnished condition or not?
I am going to leave in Oslo and hopefully not in the city center, but in suburbs like Sandvika.
If furnished one is also an option, what is the effect on rental? and how is the quality of furniture in general?
Long story short: do you recommend to look for furnished or unfurnished?

Like in most places, there are both furnished and unfurnished options available in Norway, with furnished places generally being slightly more expensive than unfurnished places. Quality of furniture is completely dependent on the owner's taste and preference, so you might get lucky and find a place with super-stylish and well-maintained furnishings, or you might find yourself renting a flat that a grannie has owned for 80 years - which means the couch is also 80 years old.
At the end of the day, both exist, and you can certainly find a great place with great decor. That said, Scandinavia is also famous for its home fittings, so if you choose to go the unfurnished route, you'll find plenty of options to kit out your house with (IKEA and more); though, it can get expensive.
I would recommend using this web site to start the house hunt - http://www.finn.no/. Also, have a look at the ExpatArrivals.com guide to Accommodation in Oslo.
