We are hoping to move to Spain as early retirees in the next 6 months. I understand that you have to be resident for at least 12 months to be able to pay into the state healthcare system. Does anybody have any advice on what to do in the meantime. Many thanks Chris

Hi there.

I found the following information on the NHS website:

UK long-term Incapacity Benefit holders can obtain an S1 (or E121) by phoning the Working Age Group Incapacity Benefit team on 0191 21 87644  (Monday to Friday 8am–5pm).

Hi Christine, Take a look at this website, as you may be covered due to EU arrangements for a period of time. https://www.gov.uk/working-abroad/healthcare-and-insurance. There is no state health care system in Spain, if under 65.
