Is it a good idea to import a car to Qatar, rather than buy used or new? What are import duties like? Does the money you end up saving make up for the hassle of organising the import?

What kind of car is it? If it isn't according to GCC specs I'd leave it at home and lease a car in Qatar. Parts can be scarce and the desert is tough on vehicles. Try and negotiate an allowance for a vehicle into your expat package; it's pretty commonplace to do so and can save you a lot of hassle.
