There is a wide variety of accommodation available in Grahamstown and, given that it is a student town, prices there are generally reasonable. Your biggest expense will probably be rent, however.
Having spoken to a friend who studied there, she advises that you start searching for accommodation as soon as possible because, while it is possible to find a good, affordable deal, there is also a lot of competition for rentals in the town.
While we can't give you specific information on living costs, I would recommend having a look at our Cost of Living in South Africa page, which should give you an idea of what to expect. You would probably find that the university's website will have some information regarding this as well. My friend did, however, say that she thinks it should be enough to get by fairly comfortably, depending on your own living standards.
If you're after a bit more information, have a look at our Expat's Guide to Living in South Africa, which starts with Moving to South Africa.
Hope this helps, and best of luck for your move
