Hi. Do you happen to know of any Gujarati speaking schools in the Western Cape? Would really love my 4 year old daughter to learn more.

Hi Serva

Unfortunately it is very unlikely, given the relatively small size of the Indian population in Cape Town. I know that Gujarati, Hindi and Urdu are offered as optional third languages at some schools in KwaZulu Natal.

While this may not help you directly, it does suggest that educational materials for teaching Gujarati should be available with a bit of searching, and gives you the option of teaching your daughter yourself.

Otherwise, the Internet would probably be your best option, if not for lessons then to get in touch with local communities. Connectivity in the Western Cape (and much of the rest of the country) is adequate, as can be seen in Keeping in Touch in South Africa.

Otherwise, have a look at our Education and Schools in South Africa page to find out more about the schooling system, and the possibility of homeschooling.

Good luck,

Xavier
