Hey,

We have a list of areas and suburbs in Johannesburg, which you might find useful. Are you moving alone or bringing a family with you? Some areas are more suitable for families and others are trendier areas with lots of young people and students.

Having lived in Joburg myself a few years back, I'd recommend Sandton, particularly Morningside, and Bedfordview. Try to steer clear of living in the city centre or close to Hillside, as these parts of the city are more dangerous.

Unfortunately, as is the case around the world, the nicer/safer areas tend to be more expensive than the not-so-safe areas, so to be honest I'd be hard-pressed to be able to recommend a safe area with low rentals. Randburg comes to mind, though. It's a really big area, so there are good parts and bad parts of it, but the rent is lower than say, Sandton, and if you search around there you'll find some really nice suburban areas and/or complexes (would recommend the Del Jardin complex in Pitsani Road in particular).

Hello, Vorna Valley in Midrand, and Randburg are also good options. Midrand has many Indian expats and the temple and mosque are also nearby. Fordsburg also has a large community of Indians and Pakistanis.
