My wife and I, like all good Britons, have had our sights set on retirement in Spain for some time now. Typical of the cliche, we were going to sell our home here in England and move to a sunny spot on the Andalucian coast. But now, I've been reading all these horror stories about buying property in Spain and I'm not sure what to believe. Can anyone advise whether this is a good idea, and what danger to beware of.

As the author of 'How to Buy Spanish Property and Move to Spain - Safely!' (available on Amazon or go to www.movesafelytospain.com etc.)I would answer that you can buy property in Spain safely but only if you are well prepared and know what you are doing. Knowledge is everything and you must appreciate that there are genuine dangers in buying property in Spain including a significant number of properties here that are illegal or have very substantial potential liabilities. Be careful and you can buy a sound, fully legal property and live to enjoy the Spanish 'dream' (wonderful and it exists!)- but be careless, ignorant and lazy and you will have trouble...
