HI, I will be moving to Grahamstown for for my post-doctoral research in Rhodes university. Whether R 12500 per month is suffice for a single person to to live in Grahamstown? what type of accommodation will be available? i would like to know more about prices in detail of all living expenses Grahamstown.. What type of accommodation will be available? I used to be a student in Grahamstown for 5 years (1987-1991) so my knowledge of cost of living is not revelant, but accommodation can be on campus in residences - there may be a post-grad dormitory as well. Single rooms and shared bathrooms. The other type of accommodation would be off campus in the town itself. Of paramount importance is choosing a place that is secure from burglars - generally closer to campus is better, and on campus probably the safest. On the hilly parts on the perimeter far from town centre and poorer parts of town (on the opposite side of town from the university) also offers safety by distance. Renting accommodation in town can be a room in a house sharing with others, a granny flat (single bedsitter) attached to a house (usually my preferred option). Apartments are available but not that common.
