When will I get my work permit for South Africa?

It is not unusual to wait a long time to receive your permit - I waited for almost 8 months to receive my first one. To check if your reference number is genuine you should go to the Home Affairs website and use the tracking facillities. However, from my experience that system is not updated regularly. So chances are you will need to visit your nearest branch of Home Affairs.

Although you are working through an agent it does not mean you will receive your permit any faster. I would however urge you to put pressure on the immigration consultant to do more to follow up your application, after all you have paid for the service.

Furthermore, Home Affairs made some major changes to legislation which came into effect on the 1st April 2014. I expect this will contribute to further delays.
