Hello,
My husband an I are retiring soon and would like to fulfill a dream of living in Ireland. However, we do not want to stay forever. Our plan is to stay for one year. We can only find info for a permanent move. Any advice? Our goal is May-June of 2021 to May-June 2022.
Thanks so much!

Hi Marge,
That sounds lovely! Where are you two from? For short stays of around 90 days, people from certain countries like the US and the EU are exempt from getting a visa. Those who stay longer, though should look into a Long Stay Visa. Have a look at our page on Visas for Ireland as it gives info on documents you may need as well as needing to register with the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS) and apply for a residence permit, if necessary.
However, the info on visas and residence permits is subject to change and so alongside this, I'd say speak to a consultant at the nearest Irish embassy. We have a list of embassy contacts here. As this is part of your dream, you'll probably want to ease the process in getting there – relocation companies are often a great way to do this, even if your move is only for one year.
Overall our guide for Ireland is quite comprehensive and you can have a look at several pages that may interest you, such as looking for accommodation.
All the best,
Claire
