Hi, we are moving from the UK to Denmark due my husbands new job in Odense, we have two sons: one 5 years old and one 9 years old. My 9-year-old son has special educational needs and I am keen to understand how inclusive the international schools are for children with special educational needs please? Any recommendations for schools?
Also coming from a semi rural location where our city is half hour away and now my husband will be working in Odense, can anybody recommend areas. We have moved overseas before but usually able to travel and view the county in person but with Covid restrictions, it's making this a logistical nightmare.
Thanks In Advance.

Hi Danielle,
Unfortunately most international schools in Denmark are concentrated in Copenhagen, with just a scattering of schools around the country outside of the capital. Odense has two: Odense International School and Nyborg Gymnasium. The latter is a secondary school, but Odense International School does accept children from ages 5 to 16, so it might be a good fit. Unfortunately, I can't find anything about special educational needs on their website so I think your best bet would be to approach them directly and find out if they have any programmes in place.
Another possible resource is the European Agency for Special Needs and Inclusive Education. They should hopefully be able to provide more information on your options.
Unfortunately we don't have a specific Expat Arrivals guide to Odense so I don't have any info about areas – hopefully someone local will come along and answer that part of your question. To learn about life in Denmark in general you might find our Denmark guide useful though.
Best of luck with your move. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
