Is it easy making friends in Doha, Qatar?

Hi- I'm a young mother moving to Doha with my two little ones and my husband, who has a very demanding job. Back home in Minnesota I had a fantastic group of friends in a similar situation and I'm hoping to find some semblance of that in Doha. Can anyone say if it's easy making friends in Doha and give a suggestion or two about groups to join or places to meet people?

There's a large expat community in Doha and people tend to be receptive to new arrivals. That said, you definitely need to make the effort to find like-minded individuals and get involved; they won't just appear on your doorstep.

There's loads of meetup groups, and as a young mother you shouldn't have a problem finding one to suit you. Doha Mums is a fantastic option and many use it as a vehicle to make friends in Doha in their situation.

Be sure to start meeting people as soon as you arrive, and don't be nervous to phone group leaders and arrange a rendez-vous for a quick coffee. With a little determination you'll find your feet in no time.
