While the Irish are generally expected to be very friendly and hospitable - they do often take a while to warm to their relationships with foreigners. It will also depends on whereabouts in Ireland you are planning on moving to. Dublin is very cosmopolitan and full of expats but in outlying areas your experiences will likely be different. However, I don't think you need to worry, just be patient and make an effort to socialise and you won't have too many problems getting to know the locals.
It would be a good idea to join some local sports teams or social clubs to meet like-minded people. Check to see if there are any expat clubs in you area, if you find the Irish a bit overwhelming.
Take a look at our Ireland Country Guide for more details on what to expect as an expat in Ireland.
Good luck with the move and enjoy your time in Ireland!
