We have been living in Spain for 7 years and my husband has worked legally all the time, paid contributions etc.

He has now decided to go self employed with a Spanish partner. He has now been told that his work permit expired, though he has never seen it.

When did Spain introduce work permits for EU people? He has been to the police station who told him to bring some documents in and not to worry, the government are changing things all the time. Does anyone know how long this will take to get a work permit?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Anne,
I have never heard of this before.
As an EU citizen, our only obligation is to ensure we have an upto date green residency certificate if we spend more that 3 month here.
You simply need to speak to an assesor to register as self employed, set up your social security payments and monthly account reporting.
What documents have the "police" asked him to submit?
Kind regards,
