I would like to know more. Me and my wife have been married for two years, my wife is a South African citizen.

My visa expires in six months, and my wife left me with the others, but we have not divorced, but have had no contact with one another. If I want to continue to live in South Africa, how can I extend my visa. I have a marriage certificate and a copy of her ID.

Hey Hai Deng,

Unfortunatley, if the conditions of a spousal permit do require that the foreigner maintain a relationship with the South African citizen.

To extend you will need to present much of the same documentation you did the first time around. You will need to provide letters from your spouse, proof of joint income, etc.

I think it might be a good idea to enlist the services of an immigration lawyer, they will be able to give you a better idea of where  you stand currently.

Another option would be to change the type of permit you are on. If you have some support from employer, you may be able to apply for a work permit. To find out more, check out the Work Permits in South Africa page.
