what do you suggest we do because we have been living together for one and half years, and his permit is expiring june

Hi hlolo,

Firstly, the fact that your fiancee supported his ex for a life partner permit, shouldn't effect your application. Unless she is still living, her permit is no longer valid.

However, as of the 1st of April there have been some major changes to the requirements for a Life Partner permit. You need to be living together for five years to be eligable for the life partner permit. This was not previously the case. I can't find any official information on exactly what the changes are (at this time there just seems to be a lot of speculation)  but I would suggest contact a few immigration consultants for more detailed information.

Please let me know if you have any more questions. I can try to help as I have been through the process myself.

Regards,

Hey,

Its really hard to say exactly what the impact of the new legislation will be. I've the Dept of Home Affairs website and there are no clear guidelines up there yet. As time contstraints will be a concern for you I would advise you to contact a good immigration lawyer, who will be most likely be more clued up on the legislation or approach Home Affairs yourself (although, from my previous experience I can't see them being very helpful).

Good luck. Hope it all works out for the best.
