Is living in Spain still a good idea for expats?

Hi there

My husband and I are considering whether buying a house and moving to Spain for a while is still a good idea, given the economy. This would probably only be next year, but we do need to think about whether it is still a good place to retire to.

Any ideas, suggestions or comments would be most welcome.

Hi Belinda

It largely depends on your individual circumstances. As you may imagine the economy in Spain is not as good as it was and many of the expat jobs that used to be readily available are scarcer.

It would be unreasonable to buy immediately. Most people rent for one year, decide if they wish to stay then look into buying. And it all depends on where you're from. EU members have no visa and healthcare issues. For Non-EU members it's complicated. I'm disappointed with how unfriendly the Spanish are. But prices are still relatively low, the weather is good, and it's safe (for now). Many rentals everywhere, once you choose the place, look around, dozens of signs with phone numbers.
