I am possibly getting a job in Lagos or Port Harcourt. I currently live in Johannesburg, South Africa. I am 44, married and was looking for some info on what it is like etc. I would be given accommodation, driver, medical etc. Are there certain areas to live in or do you ask for a compound, guest house etc. I have been a few times but I know visiting is not a true reflection on living. Any info would be great. Thanks, Stewart

Hi Stewart!
Fingers crossed about the job and all the best with the move! That sounds like a fantastic employment package, including accommodation, a driver and health insurance – and no doubt, necessary. Would you need to find the accommodation yourself or is it entirely organised by the potential employer?
It's great that you've been a few times and are familiar with the area, but as you say, it's completely different to living there. I hope someone in Nigeria can reach out to you via this forum. As you're interested in a place to stay and certain neighbourhoods, have you checked out the pages of Accommodation in Lagos and Areas and Suburbs in Lagos. Though I don't speak from personal experience, I'd recommend you check out the island areas; some of these are quite affluent but have high security. What sort of accommodation/housing are you looking for?
Though there are no specific pages on Port Harcourt, Expat Arrivals has interviews with expats who have lived in Nigeria, and they answer questions about renting and preferred areas. You can take a look at Expat Experiences in Nigeria.
I hope that helps?
