hi i m on work permit in south africa..n my wife has spouse permit on me. now she is in india for delivering a baby... i want to know that after my wife delivery, can i get my babys visa on my n her permit n what are the requirements n age of child should be?? n how much time it will take to get visa... i need it fast... please advica.. samir.

Hi,

You can apply for a relatives permit for your child as you already have temporary residency in South Africa. As far as I know there isn't any age requirement as long as the you have your childs birth certificate and valid passport from India.

Unfortunately, I cannot tell you how long the permit will take to be processed. I came to South Africa two and half years ago and applied for a Life Partner. The first time I applied they took eight months to process my application. I recentley applied for the renewal which took less than three weeks so I can say from experience that the time it takes to get the visa varies dramatically. Officially, the Department of Home Affairs says that applications are currently taking on average three months to process.
