It depends which country you're from. If you're from one of the 'new' EU countries you do need a work permit, but if you're from Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Austria, Finland, Sweden, Greece, Norway, Liechtenstein, Iceland, Cyprus or Malta you can live and work in the Netherlands without a work permit or a residence document. It might be useful to apply for a residence dicument anyway however (so you can open a bank account, say) - you can easily apply for this at your local municipality in Amsterdam.
Check out Work Permits for the Netherlands and Visas for the Netherlands for more info.
Malaysian citizens do not need a visa for the Netherlands for a stay of less than 90 days. But your passport will need to be valid for at least six months after the end of your stay.

Enjoy your visit to the Netherlands.
