can i find a job when i get there or do i have to find a job there before i leave the uk

Hi Twister

You can only apply for a work permit once you have employment. It is theoretically possible to look for a job once in Hong Kong but the employment market there is incredibly competitive and the risk that you'll come up empty handed is very real.

The good news is that there are a host of online portals that allow you to apply without having to take that risk.
