Own a car in Philippines as an foreigner?

Hello, i am swedish man that need a car in the Philippines so i wonder if i can buy one and own the car in my name or is it only possible for Philippinos to own car? I will marry one Philippino woman very soon so is it possible that time for me to own a car in Philippines or must my wife own the car? and the same questions for insurance please if someone know about this. I will not live in Philippines now, i will visit Philippines one time a year. Until now i have rent a car when i visit Philippines but it cost lots of money. Best regards Stefan from Sweden

you can drive here using your swidish drivers license for a month. then you have to have a philippine drivers lisence to drive your car. much better to get a convertion of drivers lisence from swidish to philippines.if yours is not expired yet, no need to take the examination. for the car, if its cash no problem you can get it right away....goodluck

Yup, you can buy a car on your name. But you'll need a Philippine drivers' licence. As long as your current drivers' licence hasn't expired, written and practical drivers' tests will likely be waived. You also shouldn't have any problems getting car insurance as a foreigner.

The main stumbling block might be financing the car, depending on your position. Are you going to pay for the car in cash? If yes, it should be a fairly easy process. If not, you might find it hard to get the car financed as most foreign banks won't grant a loan or credit facilities to foreigners.

Thank you so much Meagan for your answer! And yes, i pay the car cash. How i understand this so can i drive about 1 month on my swedish driving licence so i don´t think i need Philippine drivers' licence now when i only stay there short time, but i will check this when i am already there .And the car i will leave at my future wife´s home when i go back to Sweden so i have a car when i go back again.
