I'm arriving in NYC next month, from Dubai. What is the paperwork process for renting an apartment, seeing as I have no US credit history? Thanks, Louise

Hi Louise,

The paperwork you'll be required to submit when renting an apartment in New York City varies from landlord to landlord. In most cases you will be expected to fill out a comprehensive rental application, pay the relavent application fee, have your credit check and pay a security deposit on topp of you first and last months rent. Most property managers and landlords look for tenants who are able to commit to a  one year lease.

You should take a look at this page on : How to rent propety in the USA. I think it will offer you some useful insights into the process of renting a property in Manhatten.

In is also worth getting the assistance of a realtor. They will be able to assist you with the rental process for a fee. Most expats find that working with a realtor does take away a lot of the stress of finding and renting property in the New York.

Good luck with the move.
