Can I get an Australia 457-visa with a drunk driving criminal conviction

I was convicted of drunk driving 10 years ago when I was 23 (and stupid), and never got it expunged. Now I've been offered a job in Australia, but I'm worried I won't be able to pass the character assessment of the application because of the fact that the conviction appears on my police record. Can anyone who has been in a similar situation let me know what happened?

hi all ive just been granted my 457 visa, and yes i was silly 16 years ago( drink drive) just tell them on your application form and you should have no ploblem with it.

Hi all

I'm sure if you of otherwise good character and the offense is a minor one you will be fine. If you caused a pile up where people were killed and served jail time - of course that's another story.

Note that there have recently been major changes to the 457 visa.

as long as there is no jail time but i think it has to be spent

Drunk driving is not a minor crime. You are unfit to come to Australia unless it was more than 10 years ago. Do you think Australia wants loser who are drunk drivers ?
