Hi. I have been offered a Construction Job with an Oil Company in Lagos. Me prospective Employer has put me in touch with a Travel Comany to sort out the necessary Work and Travel Visa. Before these can be applied for I have been asked to pay 25% of the cost to obtain the paperwork $350 US Dollars. Is this normal in Nigeria or is it a Scam. The job is otherwise perfect for me Hope someone can help

Hi Murphy and BygDee, if a company is recruiting you from overseas, they should generally be paying for all the necessary paperwork, and it's unlikely you'll need to pay anything upfront. I'd be wary of any such expectations and suggest you do some thorough research on the company before parting with any money.

Hi. I too have been offered employment with an Oil and Gas company in Lagos. My employer has also stated that I will need to pay 25% of the cost to obtain the necessary paperwork. Is this legit?

Thanks for the advice. I have done some digging and spoken to various people on this type of Forum and come to the conclusion that the prospective job with Glotech Oil Services and Mr Maxwell Obi does not exist and is a huge Scam. I will not therefore be sending the requested $350 to them and would suggest that nobody does either Thanks

Hey guys be careful , it is a well organized crime against innocent people. The same advertisement was posted in aviation job sites. It took only two weeks just to find out that is a huge fraud. THERE IS NO UPFRONT PAYMENT IN NIGERIA. Since then,in aviation job sites that ''oil company''was denied to get access again and a severe warning was addressed to all pilots that came in contact with them. Thanks , Babis

Hi Everyone,

Here is a statement from Glotech stating they are aware of a scam taking place using the companies name and that potential employees should be aware of this.

Looks like it is another 419 scam originating in Nigeria.

Shantalie, the website statement you refer to is in fact the fraudulent company in question. The website is bogus as is the company. Thanks.

Hi Shantalie, could you also have information similar advisory from Drillog Petro Dynamics LTD. I'm afraid that same people are using legitimate website and person's name to victimized unsuspecting job seekers.

Hi Its a Scam. After being offered the Job from Obi Maxwell I asked to speak to another expat currently working for Glotech. He gave me another number to call which I did and spoke to a Mr Anthony Turner from Italy? But he had an African accent!! Which raised alarm bells. Possibly even Maxwell Obi I was speaking to. I decided that the job offer was bogus. A fantastic amount of money, long holidays, 1st class flights to and from The UK and I didn't even have an Interview. It is well organised but just ask yourself Is this too good to be true. I decided not to send the $350 ITS A SCAM. Murphy 14

It’s possible this could be a scam. Legitimate employers typically do not ask for travel document fees upfront. Always verify the job offer with the company directly. If you need assistance with travel documents like your NICOP or POC, visit trusted services to avoid any risks.
